Unearthly book review

Summary:
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

Review

I saw Unearthly a couple of times advertised in blogs, goodreads, etc. but I never really paid much attention to it. I really don’t know why, I mean it had such an astounding book cover and then, I was on my weekly book-buying session and I came across Unearthly again. I decided to read the summary of the book and I was entranced by it. I don’t know why, it just My expectations of this book was pretty high and I would say some aspects of it did meet my expectations and some took me by surprise.

I really don’t know what I was expecting from Unearthly, but I was looking forward for awesomeness, and I would say its pretty average in my taste. It wasn’t necessarily bad that I wanted to roll over and die after reading the book; it was just like any other average good angel books that I read. Some things that took me by surprise is the romance factor I mean sure there were hints that Tucker would be Clara’s love interest but, I never would have expected how it ended with him, I was thinking it would be more of Christian. Another thing that made me go, “whoa wasn’t expecting that” was the ending. It was just so different from what I predicted, which I guess is a good thing because you wouldn’t want a predictable book right? I surely wouldn’t. There were definitely great things in the book that I saw like the pacing. There was never a time where it was too slow or too fast, the writing was no doubt strong and the story flowed well, I just wished the ending didn’t end in such a cliff-hanger that I’m now desperate to see the next book.

Unearthly definitely showed its worth and after reading the book, I got to be a fan of Cynthia Hand. I saw the hard effort she put in research and making this book a great debut and the talent she has for writing. I am definitely looking forward for more of her works and I recommend it to all Ya paranormal fans out there, I am pretty sure you’ll get to love the angel world Cynthia made.

overall rating 3.5/5
